ENGL 471 Improv for Professional Writers

This course uses improvisational theater techniques and theories to explore and hone professional communication. Students develop their ability to read and respond to workplace writing contexts through the study of improv. In addition to practicing an array of writing techniques, we will also emphasize listening, speaking, and roleplaying to engage different professional audiences more effectively and to develop a better understanding of what communication techniques are best to use in a given situation. This is not an acting class, but class participation is an important component of the course because we will frequently engage in improv exercises and activities.
