Advanced Standing
Advanced standing in this 95-credit degree program is available to students who have completed a four-year baccalaureate degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or Interior Design from a NASAD-, CIDA-, or NAAB-accredited undergraduate program. The three advanced standing options are intended for those who wish to pursue advanced professional and post-professional studies in Interior Architecture. While three advanced standing options have been outlined below, specialized tracks will be determined on a case-by-case basis after a review of completed undergraduate coursework and a design portfolio.
M.I.A. Program Requirements (2-year professional degree) Advanced Standing Option II - 60 credits
Students holding a CIDA- or NASAD-accredited Bachelor of Interior Architecture or Interior Design degree will receive up to 35 credits of advanced standing for required course content that they have successfully completed during their undergraduate degree program. Application Requirements
Applicants for graduate study in Interior Architecture must meet the general requirements for admission to the University.
In addition, applicants must submit and/or satisfy the following:
1. A Statement of Purpose, 150-200 words in length.
2. Three letters of recommendation (only one of which may be from a Marywood University faculty member).
3. If requested, a personal interview with the School's Graduate Admissions Committee.
4. A portfolio of design projects, with narrative descriptions, submitted no later than one month before the last official registration date. The School's Graduate Admissions Committee will evaluate the portfolio for its diversity of project types, the complexity of programs resolved, and the quality of visual and written presentation and communication. The purpose of this review is to determine if the student is suitably prepared to meet the expectations of advanced professional study.
5. The School's Graduate Admissions Committee will determine if any advanced standing is warranted based on a review of all required application materials. Course syllabi and assignments may be requested as further documentation of an applicant’s preparedness.
6. For students holding a Marywood School of Architecture undergraduate degree, a minimum QPA of 3.0 (or "B") is required for admission to the Master of Interior Architecture program. For those holding undergraduate degrees from other institutions, a minimum overall QPA of 3.0 (or "B") is expected. Individuals who do not meet this minimum QPA requirement (or other requirements), but demonstrate outstanding or unusual qualifications that promise significant contributions to the program, may request special consideration through the Director of the School of Architecture.
