Online Teaching Endorsement

The Online Teaching Endorsement program is a 12 credit program that includes four (8 week) accelerated courses designed for candidates who have completed a baccalaureate program and are interested in obtaining professional knowledge, skills, and competencies to teach in an online environment. The program is accredited through the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and includes a 10 hour field experience component for students to take the knowledge that they receive and apply it to “hands on” practice in the field.

Due to the increase in online and blended learning in PK-12 settings, it is imperative for current and future teachers to be prepared to teach in an online environment. The program will be of interest to current graduate education students and PK-12 teachers.  Currently teaching jobs that include an online teaching component do not require a special certification, however, that requirement may be put in place in the very near future. Current undergraduate students will also have the opportunity to take these courses and apply for the endorsement after receiving their undergraduate education degree.

Those seeking PA Department of Education (PDE) endorsement in Online Instruction Program PK-12 are required to hold a Level I or II certification and must successfully complete the following courses:

EDUC 600   Designing & Developing Effective Online Instruction 3
EDUC 601 Delivering Instruction in an Online Learning Environment 3
EDUC 602  Assessment in Blended & Online Learning Environments 3
EDUC 603  Emerging Trends & Professional Responsibilities in Educational Technology 3

Those who do not hold Level I or II certification will not receive PDE endorsement but can request a certificate of completion after satisfactorily completing the Online program.
