PA 616 Capstone Project I

The Capstone Project is a three-semester course that builds on the Evidence-Based Medicine course & Professional Practice course completed during the didactic phase of the program by having students participate individually in the conception, development, and production of a paper of publishable quality. The paper will incorporate the basic concepts of research design and statistics as they apply specifically to the medical research literature. This course is designed to teach students the essential skills required for effective and efficient publication of peer-reviewed evidence-based medicine papers. Capstone Project I includes identifying highly-relevant clinical questions or topics, writing a research question and thesis statement, performing a thorough review of the literature summarizing the current state of the topic, writing a title page and introduction that compels the audience to read the article, , and continuously writing and editing the manuscript as a whole. These activities will be accomplished by each individual student with direct faculty mentorship.
