General Science Requirements — All Students
All students are required to take one three-credit course in Science to fulfill the liberal arts core requirement. Some science courses do require one credit of laboratory for a total of four science credits. The one-credit laboratory is a direct accompaniment to a science course and is taken concurrently with the lecture component.
These courses are designed to develop scientific literacy by enabling the student to:
- comprehend basic science concepts, theories, and principles;
- recognize the evolving science and technology in today’s society;
- apply reasoning and quantitative skills to scientific and technological issues;
- be acquainted with the philosophical implications of science as a process; and
- support a chosen viewpoint as a responsible, scientifically, and technologically informed citizen.
Science Courses that Fulfill Core Requirements for Non-Science Students
Note that any Science course offered to non-Science majors can fulfill the core requirement. However, individual departments may have a specific science course core requirement.
