MUSC 123 Songwriting

A course for songwriters of any genre, requiring no previous musical experience. Students may start with lyrics, beats, melodies, chords, or any combination of those. The instructor will discuss how to write an effective melody, pick a functional chord progression, achieve a good groove, and combine lyrics with music. The analytical components of the course include neurological aspects, cultural appropriation, and meta-analysis. This course satisfies the Fine Arts core curriculum requirement.
