SPAN 340 Hispanic Women Writers

This course provides students the opportunity to read and analyze various genres of literature written by Hispanic women from the Middle Ages to today. Narrative, poetic and theatrical texts are read along with critical essays treating the topic of women's writing with the goal of tracing the development of the female voice in Hispanic literature. The works of writers such as Santa Teresa de Jesus, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, Rosalia de Castro, Emilia Pardo Bazan, Maria Luisa Bombal, Rosario Castellanos, Luisa Valenzuela, Julia Alvarez, and Isabel Allende among others are considered.
