PA 618 Capstone Project III

The Capstone Project is a three-semester course that builds on the Evidence-Based Medicine course & Professional Practice course completed during the didactic phase of the program by having students participate individually in the conception, development, and production of a paper of publishable quality. The paper will incorporate the basic concepts of research design and statistics as they apply specifically to the medical research literature. This course is designed to teach students the essential skills required for effective and efficient publication of peer-reviewed evidence-based medicine papers. Capstone Project III includes writing a conclusion related to their research area, discussing areas and need for future research, writing an abstract, identifying the ideal publication venue for disseminating the information, determining the most appropriate article type and format within the given publication, determining requirements for submission, writing a mock letter of interest to the journal editor, identifying the journal articles primary readership, interacting professionally with the clinical team as needed to guide the manuscript through the peer-review process, and finally presenting a paper suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. These activities will be accomplished by each individual student with direct faculty mentorship.
