Online Teaching Endorsement

The Online Teaching Endorsement program is a 12 credit program that includes four (8 week) accelerated courses designed for candidates who have completed a baccalaureate program and are interested in obtaining professional knowledge, skills, and competencies to teach in an online environment. The program is accredited through the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and includes a 10 hour field experience component for students to take the knowledge that they receive and apply it to “hands on” practice in the field.

Due to the increase in online and blended learning in PK-12 settings, it is imperative for current and future teachers to be prepared to teach in an online environment. The program will be of interest to current graduate education students and PK-12 teachers.  Currently teaching jobs that include an online teaching component do not require a special certification, however, that requirement may be put in place in the very near future. Current undergraduate students will also have the opportunity to take these courses and apply for the endorsement after receiving their undergraduate education degree.

Those seeking PA Department of Education (PDE) endorsement in Online Instruction Program PK-12 are required to hold a Level I or II certification and must successfully complete the following courses.

Obtaining the First Teaching Certification

A student who wishes to obtain a Pennsylvania Instructional I Certificate in specialized PK-12 and 7-12 areas, but who does not wish to pursue the master’s degree program, or who already holds a master’s degree, can enroll in a post- baccalaureate, certification-only program. Determination of individual student requirements for certification will be made after all previous transcripts have been evaluated. A student seeking only certification may receive transfer credit for equivalent courses up to fifty percent of the Education Core requirement credits at Marywood University. Eligibility for certification is determined by fulfillment of state requirements, including PRAXIS II testing (as required in each area of certification) taken upon completion of the program.

There are three options for post baccalaureate certification that are listed below in combination with a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.). Specific courses for the certification and additional courses for the MAT are noted below.
