HIST 105 American Pluralism
Even before the Declaration of Independence asserted all men are free and equal, Americans have struggled to define what equal participation means in a pluralistic society. This course examines how different communities (based on ethnicity, religion, national origins, and other categories) have struggled for equal opportunity and political rights as well as facing barriers to achieving their goals. This course also emphasizes multiple and different perspectives rather than favoring a particular political position as the sole way to accomplish the promise of equality made by the Framers.
