ENGL 353 American Immigrant Writers

This course will examine literary works written by immigrant and ethnic American writers about their experiences of coming to American and becoming American. Through their writing, we will explore themes of migrating, immigrating assimilating, and maintaining ethnic identity in different American communities. We will also look at the relationship between different ethnic traditions - African-, Arab-, Asian-, European-, and Hispanic-American - and the larger tradition of American literature and culture.
