SPED 230 High Incidence Exceptionalities
This course addresses the development, implementation, and monitoring of individualized management, instruction, curricular, and environmental strategies, and ideas for differentiation of instruction for students with special needs. Emphasis is placed on both a strength and needs model incorporating the cognitive, language, attentional, affective, physical, and sensory needs of higher incident populations (learning disabilities, mild intellectual disabilities, speech disorders, behavioral challenges, & higher functioning autism) within inclusive settings, resource room, and learning support environments. A 30-hour field experience component facilitates direct interaction with learners who have special needs, supplemented by cooperative discussions of experiential applications to course content. This course requires field experience: Clearances are required.
