VARC 399A ST: Cinematic & Video Game Architecture
This course introduces Film and Video Games as mediums of architectural inquiry. Since the invention of perspective drawing, the representation of architecture as such requires a perceiving subject. Today these subjectivities are defined through film and video games. This class will take immersive journeys into cinematic environments by screening films and through cooperative play. We will supplement our journeys with theory readings, lectures, and visits with guest speakers. Finally, our knowledge gained will be put into action with a multidisciplinary project which reconsiders the drawing as the fundamental representation of architecture. Together we will speculate: what does the future hold for the medium of architecture?
