SPED 523 Programming for the At-Risk?Infant/Preschool Child

This course involves the typical and atypical development of young children and early intervention models for children with special needs, infant to third grade. This course includes an overview of the field of early intervention, including historical perspectives, philosophies of early intervention, influences of disabilities on the development of young children, and the development of IFSPs and IEPs. Formal and informal assessments for identification, evaluation, and intervention strategies (curriculum, methods, materials, and activities) are stressed, with an emphasis on planning individualized learning environments and incorporating assistive technology for young children.
