MUSC 399C ST: Music and Spirituality

From prehistory to the present day, across virtually every culture, music has been inextricably connected to the spiritual lives of humans, despite the prevalent view of music as mere entertainment. The essential question addressed in this course is: How does music move us spiritually? We will examine the relationship between music and spiritual practice, both within and outside the context of organized religion. No previous knowledge is required. This course will satisfy the Fine Arts core curriculum requirement.
