RST 250N ST: Mary in the Global South
This course will explore Christian devotions related to the Virgin Mary, especially as practiced in the Global South. The first part of the course will examine the historical Miriam of Nazareth, as well as the emergence of Marian devotion within early and medieval Christianity. The second part of the course will focus on Marian devotion in the Global South, paying special attention to popular piety in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
