ART 601R ST: History and Application of Type
The course is an exploration of typography. It will be comprised of a three-class on campus overview of the history of typography, with emphasis on the Roman alphabet, and the various further developments (Gothic, Black Letter, Serif, Sans Serif, Egyptian, Tuscan, Wood Type, hot and cold type, etc.) Students will then spend two classes on campus designing with type. Ongoing readings and assignments will be conducted online throughout the semester.
