HIST 445C Kenya and Africa in a Globalizing World

International immersion course on the culture of Kenya, Eastern Africa, taught in collaboration with Chestnut Hill College. Students will learn about the host country to understand historical and present-day perspectives, as they prepare for an international service learning experience in and around Eldoret, Kenya, near Nairobi. Marywood and Chestnut Hill students will travel together as one cohort. While in Kenya, students will have the opportunity to provide service at host sites, including education, social service, agriculture, and healthcare. Students will have the opportunity to tour Nairobi and other points of interest, including relevant cultural and historic sites, deepening their understanding of the host country. Through this mutual cultural exchange, additional concepts covered will include problem-solving, strategic thinking, and global leadership. Additionally, through the course students will learn and execute proven fundraising strategies to support the costs of their trip.
