Undergraduate Catalog

SPAN 150 Elementary Spanish

Designed for students who have studied 0-2 years of high school Spanish. The basic skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) are presented, reviewed, and practiced as building blocks toward proficiency in communication. Communicative activities based on cultural information and authentic materials are supported by vocabulary sets and grammatical explanations to facilitate the learning process. All activities increase cultural awareness and help students personalize and relate the material to their own experiences and professional goals. Through interactive language assignments, students collaborate in pair and group activities while improving their interpersonal communication skills. Reading and writing practices allow students to understand and compose original sentences, paragraphs, and compositions. Cultural assignments and discussions lead to a greater understanding of and respect for Hispanic people throughout the world.
