SPAN 285 Images of the Caribbean

Images of the Caribbean will offer students the option of studying a trajectory of Caribbean literary productions from the 19th - 21st centuries. In this survey course, students will analyze Caribbean literary works within their historical, cultural, and political contexts. The objective is to become acquainted with the major authors, themes, and literary movements that have emerged in the Caribbean--while critically approaching the history, culture, and geography that have made it a complex area of inquiry. In all of these discussions, we will explore the concept of "caribeñidad" (caribbeanness) as it is constructed and articulated throughout the area.
