CSD 264 Communication & Cognition- Multidisciplinary Approach to Language

This course explores the relationship between language, cognition, and communication through a multidisciplinary lens. We will explore the origins of language, animal communication, the link between thought and language, the biological foundations of human communication, the relationship between working memory and language, the role of iconicity and arbitrariness in language development and recovery, as well as the cognitive and behavioral foundations of artificial intelligence. The course also delves into language impairments, including Developmental Language Disorders, Williams Syndrome, and acquired language disorders like Capgras Syndrome, prosopagnosia, and synesthesia.
