PHIL 120 The Examined Life

The great philosopher, Socrates, before being sentenced to death for practicing philosophy, proclaimed that "the unexamined life is not worth living." In this course, students will be invited to critically examine their lives by studying a broad range of thinkers and issues in philosophy. Topics may include the existence of God; the nature of reality; the basis for knowledge; human nature and personal identity; the meaning of life; free will and determinism; race, class and gender, and our mortal responsibilities to others.
