PHIL 121 The Good Life
The Ancient Greeks understood "the good life" to include developing a virtuous character and performing right actions. In this course, we will study the good life by examining a range of contemporary problems in applied ethics. Students will develop their ethical reasoning skills by investigating how theoretical approaches to ethics apply to real world issues. Topics may include global issues such as poverty, war, and immigration; obligations concerning animals and the environment; ethical controversies in medicine; the ethics of criminal punishment; social issues concerning race, class, and gender; and the ethics of personal relationships.
