Writing Minor

Program Requirements for Writing Minors (18 credits)

Must complete a minimum of 18 credit hours in writing.

ENGL 160Composition and Rhetoric

English 160 Composition and Rhetoric is the prerequisite for the internship and all upper-division writing courses. The upper-division courses may be taken in any sequence.

The remaining five courses may be fulfilled by any 200-level or 400-level English writing courses or 300-level courses in English designated "Writing Intensive" (course number will be followed by a "W."). Up to 2 courses may be taken outside English (e.g., COMM courses, writing intensive Core courses, transfer classes etc. )

Students should strive to take courses in a variety of the categories listed below, with no more than 2 in any one category: Examples of each type of course ae listed below, but are not limited to these examples

Writing Survey courses (ENGL 220, 230, 240)

Writing Theory (e.g., ENGL 420, 423, 425)

Workplace Writing (e.g., ENGL 470, 476, 479)

Creative Writing (e.g., ENGL 460, 463)

Social Justice Writing (e.g., ENGL 483, 484, 485)

Digital Intensive Writing (e.g., ENGL 440, 486)

Writing Intensive Literature Course

Senior Seminar (ENGL 495)

Internship (ENGL 451)
