EDUC 1075 Pre-Dissertation Seminar in Education
Pre-Dissertation seminar in education focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary to develop a research proposal in education. Protection of the rights of human subjects, particularly school-age children, school employees, parents, and school community stakeholders, as well as other ethical concerns are addressed throughout this course. Special emphasis is given to the development of knowledge and skills necessary to identify relevant and manageable research topics and questions. Various methodological issues are studied with a focus on resolving a problem in practice. The seminar is also a workshop on dissertation writing that prepares the student to write their dissertation proposal and supports effective strategies in dissertation writing, including APA style, format, requirements, analytical and academic writing. Various theoretical frameworks are explored with in-depth discussion of completing a dissertation as a research practitioner
