ART 309 Global Baroque Art
This course will study the origins of the Baroque in Italy, and then trace its development through Spain, the Netherlands, and France, and then into places such as Mexico, South America, and Africa, with particular focus on important artists and monuments, but also the translation of the style in varying cultural contexts. We will study and see architecture related to Spain's Muslim community, investigate the formation of Spanish Golden Age painting, and consider the role played by the Spanish in the colonization of Latin America.
