PA 511 Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis II
Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis II is the second course of a three-part comprehensive and cumulative series in the detailed instruction of proper history taking, correct physical examination techniques, and the documentation of both. It is offered in a systematic-approach method allowing the student to formulate differential diagnoses. Lectures for each topic include anatomy and physiology review, disease processes, pathophysiology, signs and symptoms of diseases/conditions that affect the systems covered. This course utilizes formal lecture, class discussions, supervised laboratory sessions, and independent study to help the student improve their clinical skills. Students learn to recognize and analyze normal and abnormal findings, proper documentation, and oral presentation of the History & Physical Examination findings. Students are instructed on the proper interview and examination techniques/skills in relation to patients of all ages and and in different clinical settings. The student learns to be mindful of the Patient-PA relationship including patient confidentiality, patient welfare, respect, ethics, cultural awareness, and professionalism. HIPAA certification and OSHA blood-borne pathogen training is included in the course. This course includes, but is not limited to: Chest and Lungs; Heart and Cardiovascular; and, Musculoskeletal.
